The Laboratory concept

The Laboratory concept December 10, 2008

The second in a series of three, this is another whimsical look at life in 1500.

The concept is a residence fashioned after an experimental testing laboratory. Exposed tubular ductwork runs across the ceiling and down to the range hood. The kitchen surfaces are all metallic, such as the aluminum cabinets and copper-coated countertops; and for the flooring, a stained concrete finish.

This scene has a couple in the morning, the woman lounging on the futon, and the man at the loft landing, wearing a banyan that resembles somewhat more of a lab coat. Their enthusiasm for science is further evident in the original vase group on the end of the shelf along the wall, shaped like a set of beakers. As for the green concoction in their glasses, it is probably just cucumber juice.
